Case Study

Case Study 1
Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Programme at a UK Rail Infrastructure Company

A Major UK Rail Infrastructure Company wanted to standardise the backend business processes (Payroll, Recruitment, and Procurement) and embarked on an ERP Programme. The ERP was based on implementing an Oracle e-Business Suite which included the following modules – Financials (Payroll, Daily Business Intelligence), Human Resources Management System (iRecruitment, iLearning & Self-Service) and, Procurement (‘Requisition-to-pay’, iProcurement).

Elevation was retained to design and implement the Stakeholder Engagement Strategy and plan for the entire ERP Programme. In addition, Elevation was responsible for designing, planning, identifying of benefits and leading the business change activities for the Procurement (‘Requisition-to-pay’) project.

Hitherto payroll, recruitment and procurement were inconsistent across the organisation, and meant huge challenges in recruiting the right staff; paying staff on the same date and utilising economies of scale in procurement of essential equipment for staff.

Case Study 2

Change Manage Fleet Asset Management System Implementation for a UK Rail Infrastructure Company
Elevation Consulting was retained to act as ‘Agent of Change’ in an organisation responsible for the maintenance, modification, overhaul and repair activities of rail vehicle assets.
Elevation’s remit required designing, planning, identifying the benefits and leading the business change activities in order to enable the Business Sponsor to:

  • Increase rail vehicle fleet availability to customers,
  • Lower unit costs of rail vehicle fleet maintenance by the Service Providers,
  • Improve rail vehicle fleet output quality and,
  • Reduce risk of incidents attributable to non-compliance.

Hitherto rail vehicle maintenance was carried out by third-party contractors, and information on rail vehicle schedule and unscheduled maintenance data were not visible to the rail company’s Operation Managers. This meant an increased cost of rail vehicle fleet maintenance and the rail company incurring penalties for failures in rail vehicle due to inconsistency in the maintenance information.

Elevation’s remit further included co-ordinating and managing the Invitation to Tender (ITT) to select the preferred third-party supplier that will implement the new system whilst being responsible for co-ordinating the in-sourcing of some of the third-party rail vehicle maintenance organisation into the rail company.

Case Study 3
Secondary and Community Care Solution

Elevation Consulting was retained to act as ‘Business Change Manager’ for an NHS Trust in the North West of England. The NHS Trust was re-organising its administrative support activities in order to enable Health Care Professionals (HCP) to focus on delivering quality care for patients.

Elevation’s remit required designing, planning, identifying the benefits and leading the business change activities as well as providing coaching and mentoring to the NHS Trust Business Change Team.
The challenge for the NHS Trust and Elevation was to create a new Shared Service organisation whilst reducing disruption to the day-to-day delivery of quality care to patients. This will involve co-locating the administrative staff across the NHS Trust, and implementing an IT system (Lorenzo) to enable the new business processes and way of working going forward.

Before the Secondary and Community Care Solution Project, HCP such as Podiatrist were involved in both the administrative activities and performing treatments; whilst not being able to attend effectively to demands across the Trust. Also, because administrative activities were localised, patients’ experience of trying to book an appointment was at an all-time low. Over 60% of the patients surveyed stated their dismay of not being able to speak to a person when trying to book an appointment to see a HCP.

Elevation worked in collaboration with the Project Sponsor and Business Change Team to design the new Shared Service organisation, developed and implemented the change strategy and plan as well as identifying the benefits and created a Benefit Realisation Plan so that the benefits can be measured. Furthermore, Elevation supported the initiation of a reward & recognition system used to encourage staff to adopt the right behaviours.
